Retina Foundation

Well, we attending our research session at the Retina Foundation today and not a lot happened. They do research by testing children on their eye sight and putting documentation together. It was a painless exercise but Ella wanted NOTHING to do with it. One of her biggest weaknesses (besides head control) is controlling her sight. Now some people, especially grandparents, will say that Ella sees fine, which is true in VERY controlled situations. She sees best lying on her back, with her head in the middle, no sound or noise, and the subject directly over her...usually making faces that she can mimic. Unfortunately today we were sitting at a table, Ella sitting up in my lap (which is VERY difficult under normal circumstances for her), and looking at some flash cards. Now, these weren't normal flash cards....they are about 24" long and 12" high, but they have black and white lines on one half and solid grey on the other half. The point was to get Ella's eyes to focus on the b&w half of the board...she didn't get even half of them correct. She follows sound mostly so if I made a peep behind her then she automatically turn around. It was VERY frustrating for me. We were told that the test was inconclusive and that we would have to come back in 3 months. They could have told us how Ella's sight was doing, but I still know nothing. I'm a little defeated today, but tomorrow is another day. We are super busy this week and have a WONDERFUL weekend lined up. Stay tuned for info from the neurologist and developmental doctors on Friday as well as lots of pictures....Toby the German is in town!!

love and prayers,
